RIP Paul Hunter
Paul Hunter sadly passed away on the 9th of October at the age of 27 after his battle with cancer. Born on the 14th of October 1978 he would of celibrated his 28th birthday this week.
Paul’s career started at the age of 16 when he turned professional, winning his first tournament at the age of 19 The Welsh open would just be the start, going back just four years later and winning the title again also that year he bagged The British Open.
Earning a total £1,525,050 in prize money Paul only managed a 146 break in ranking competitions.
Paul continued to play snooker last season whilst undergoing chemotherapy treatment, but he only won one of his matches and fell from 5th to 34th in the world rankings.
Earlier this year The WPBSA voted to give the board the capacity to freeze a player’s ranking. The ranking freeze can only take place if the player is suffering from an illness or injury that will incapacitate him for a whole season. The very next day The WSA sent out a press release stating “Paul Hunter’s application to take a season away from professional snooker has been accepted.“ 19 out of the 24 members who voted, voted in favour of the change.

Paul will continue to live on in our memories, in our history books, in our hearts but most of all in his daughter Evie Rose who can grow up and be proud to say that Paul Hunter was her father.
