When the N
ürburgring Grand Prix opens this July, the seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher will have his name appended to a set of curves to be dubbed the “Schumacher S.” This honor is partially due to Schumacher’s German heritage, but also because the former Ferrari F1 pilot has the most wins at the Eifelland circuit.

RIP Paul Hunter

Filed under: General Interest, Snooker — The Jester @ 8:31 am

Paul Hunter sadly passed away on the 9th of October at the age of 27 after his battle with cancer.  Born on the 14th of October 1978 he would of celibrated his 28th birthday this week.

Paul’s career started at the age of 16 when he turned professional, winning his first tournament at the age of 19 The Welsh open would just be the start, going back just four years later and winning the title again also that year he bagged The British Open.

Earning a total £1,525,050 in prize money Paul only managed a 146 break in ranking competitions.

Paul continued to play snooker last season whilst undergoing chemotherapy treatment, but he only won one of his matches and fell from 5th to 34th in the world rankings.

Earlier this year The WPBSA voted to give the board the capacity to freeze a player’s ranking.  The ranking freeze can only take place if the player is suffering from an illness or injury that will incapacitate him for a whole season.  The very next day The WSA sent out a press release stating “Paul Hunter’s application to take a season away from professional snooker has been accepted.“  19 out of the 24 members who voted, voted in favour of the change.

Eirian WilliamsA great guy, and a great player, I cannot put it into words how much Paul is going to be missed. I am so proud to have known him.

Paul will continue to live on in our memories, in our history books, in our hearts but most of all in his daughter Evie Rose who can grow up and be proud to say that Paul Hunter was her father.

From all at Jesters Paul you will always be remembered as The Beckham of the baize, Rest in Peace dear friend.
