PJ Nolan E-Coaching

PJ Nolan started coaching in his home town of New Ross Co Wexford in Ireland in the 1980s and it was not long until he was guiding players to win national junior and senior snooker titles.

PJ has never been a top player but has beaten top ranked players in Irish tournament and has made century breaks, but early on he knew he was never going to be a player and he decided to focus on becoming a coach.

In the early days it was tough because he had no playing record, but soon players realized that a coach is a person who can motivate, encourage and guide players to improve and reach their true potential.

In 1997 Terry Griffiths who was the Coaching Director of W.P.B.S.A. (World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association ) at the time traveled to Ireland to set up the R.I.B.S.A. (Republic Of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association ) Coaching Foundation and qualified PJ as a coach and he became the youngest qualified Coach.

In 1998 The Qatar Billiards & Snooker Federation in the middle east contacted the I.B.S.F. (International Billiards & Snooker Federation ) looking for a new national coach; PJ applied for this position and became Qatar National Coach in July 2003.

Coaching the Qatar team in Gulf and Arab and Asian Snooker Championship gave PJ fantastic experience in learning how to prepare players to play to their best for major tournaments.

But in 1999 The Republic of Ireland association gave PJ a chance to become the New Republic Of Ireland National Snooker Coach and Director of Coaching and he decided to quit Qatar to come back to Ireland to take up this position

From 1999 – 2003 PJ guided Ireland to two Home International Senior Titles and help produce a string of new Irish players like David Morris, Vincent Muldoon, David Hogan, Martin McCrudden, Robert Murphy, Tom McKeon who have all gone on to win numerous Irish titles.

Being the full time national coach of Ireland was a unpaid position and in 2003 the Qatar federation again approached PJ to return to Qatar to become the National Cue Sport Technical Expert and PJ accepted this role in June 2003 and in 2004 coached Qatar to their first ever gold medal in the G.C.C. Gulf Under 21 Snooker championships.

The Qatar Billiards & Snooker Federation recently open their new training center in the capital of Qatar and have 10 Riley match tables with a separate room for all finals, also contained in this building are 8 pool tables and this is where both national teams train under PJs training program and is also the venue for holding all Qatari ranking tournaments.

PJ still coaches and guides a number of Irish and International players from India to Greece by email while living in Qatar, and his coaching style of breaking each point down and getting the players to think, play positive, naturally and train on specific routines which will eventually lead the player to become a champion. PJ has built up his reputation over the past 20 years and is now regarded as one of the highly respected world coaches.

During the 20 years of his coaching, PJ has worked with Terry Griffiths, Del Hill,Chris Henry and Rory Mcleod and national coaches from Thailand, China, and Malaysia.

They all had their own individual coaching styles and the best advice he received from them is to never stop working hard on your own coaching, if you want to stay successful in this game.

PJ’s coaching is now beginning to pay off in Qatar and produce top young players, Ali Al Obaidly is a 15year old Qatari schoolboy with a bright future and has already qualified to play in the Asian Senior snooker Championships in Pakistan and World Under 21 and Asian Under 21 and last year he played in the Asian Games along with his brother Khamis Al Obaidly (19yrs) and Mohanna Al Obaidly (17yrs) and Mohammed Al Khaldi (17yrs)

PJ’s brand new coaching and training programs will help players of all levels from a junior player to a professional player and www.jesterssnooker.co.uk will help to bring his coaching advice and answer your questions to all players from all around the world.

During the next 6 months PJ will be coaching the Qatar under 21 Snooker Team and the English Billiards National Team for the Asian Championships here in Qatar from the 26th May to the 2nd June

Next on the agenda the Qatar team will travel to Pakistan for the Asian Mens championship from 11th – 17th June and they will follow that with a Junior Team training camp in Ireland from the 8th July to the 20th

In August PJ will prepare the Qatar team for the World U-21 snooker championship. In September they will compete in the Home Internationals Snooker Championships in the Junior and Senior Championships in Pontins Wales against all the top European countries

“Remember if you fail to prepare, be prepared to fail “

Thank you and good Luck
